How to Preorder GTA 6 Standard or Ultimate Edition on PS5
GTA 6 is available to preorder directly through PlayStation Store on PS5. The purchase process is straightforward, but the edition selector, account region and difference between preload and release dates can cause avoidable mistakes.
This guide focuses on ordering from the console itself and deciding between Standard and Ultimate Edition. GTA 6 is not announced for PS4, so the product page should always identify PS5.

Before opening PlayStation Store
Check that your PS5 is signed into the PlayStation Network account that will own the game. Digital licenses are tied to the purchasing account, not simply to the console used for checkout.

Step 3: Compare value, not only price
Standard is the practical choice for players interested primarily in the base game. Ultimate is aimed at players who value Rockstar’s listed premium items and activities.
Do not purchase Ultimate because a social post says it is necessary for online access or the full ending. Rockstar has made no such announcement. Likewise, claims about unlisted properties, advanced weapon systems or exclusive future DLC should not be treated as edition benefits.
Rockstar’s store currently says PlayStation users can upgrade from Standard to Ultimate later. That reduces the pressure to decide immediately, although you should verify the current regional terms before purchasing.
Step 4: Review the cart
Choose Preorder and inspect the checkout screen. Confirm five details:
- Product title is Grand Theft Auto VI.
- Platform is PS5.
- Edition is exactly the one intended.
- PSN account and store region are correct.
- The total and payment method are acceptable.
PlayStation’s U.S. support says preorders are charged when placed. Wallet funds may be used, with a payment method covering any remaining balance where permitted.
Do not press purchase repeatedly if checkout appears slow. Wait for the confirmation and check transaction history to avoid ordering twice.
Step 5: Confirm the purchase
After payment, PlayStation Store should show the item as purchased or preordered. Keep Sony’s email receipt and check Transaction History under account settings.
The game should also appear in Game Library. If it does not, verify that you are viewing the purchasing account, restart the store interface and allow time for the transaction to process.
If the wrong edition was purchased, consult PlayStation’s cancellation policy before downloading or streaming any content. Eligibility depends on timing and whether content has begun downloading.
Step 6: Enable automatic preload
Sony supports automatic downloads for eligible preorders. In PS5 settings, enable automatic downloads and keep the console connected to the internet in rest mode.
Preload begins November 12 according to Rockstar. The playable release is November 19. The exact unlock time can depend on region and storefront, so use the countdown shown by your PS5 rather than a social-media graphic.

What happens to the preorder bonus?
Eligible preorder bonuses should be attached to the account and edition under the official offer terms. Read the regional PlayStation listing to see the current benefit and any redemption conditions.
You should not need to buy a separate “preorder bonus code” from an individual seller. Avoid listings that promise unsupported currency, early access or secret editions. Rockstar’s official preorder announcement and store page are the authoritative references.
Digital purchase versus the boxed version
Buying through PlayStation Store provides a digital license immediately. Rockstar’s retail Standard Edition is a physical package containing a download code, not a PS5 game disc.
